Info for participants + FAQs
Let’s start the Fixfest with a strike!
As in many other cities of the world, Berlin will see a Global Climate Strike on Friday, 20 Sept, which is the first day of the Fixfest. We are going to join the strikers and demand quick action in climate policy and draw attention to the fact that repairing products is one of the tools for fighting the climate crisis. The many there are of us the better: If you are already in Berlin on the morning of 20 Sept and would like to be a part of the Global Climate Strike, you can join our demo group. You'll find more details on this on our homepage in September.
How to get there
The Fixfest 2019 will take place at Technische Universität Berlin, very close to the train station Zoologischer Garten. The address reads:
TU Berlin, HBS-Gebäude
From the train station Zoologischer Garten, you can easily walk to the venue.
From Berlin main station (Hauptbahnhof)
Take every S-Bahn direction Spandau, Westkreuz or Potsdam (3, 5, 7 or 9) to the train station Zoologischer Garten. The ride takes 6 minutes.
From airport Tegel
Take the bus X9 for 24 minutes until "S+U Zoologischer Garten".
From airport Schönefeld
Take S-Bahn S9 to "Zoologischer Garten". The ride takes approximately 50 minutes.
We recommend staying at Hotel aletto. It is located only a few meters from our venue and offers different room categories (single, double and multi-bed rooms).
We have reserved a certain number of rooms in the Hotel aletto for you. When booking, use the term "Reparatur-Festival" to book a bed based on the following conditions (prices per person per night):
Single room - 135€
Double room - 73€
Triple room - 56€
Multi-bed room (4-6 persons) - 47€
The price includes breakfast, bed linen, VAT and towels.
The price does NOT include the overnight tax of 2,84€ per person per night.
Please note that the contingent will only be held for us until 30.08.2019. Therefore, it is best to book as soon as possible.
The food on Saturday will be prepared together with the initiative Restlos Glücklich from Berlin - and you! The team of Restlos Glücklich and volunteering Fixfest participants will prepare lunch and dinner out of saved food. If you feel like it, you can sit down at one of the tables in the upper area of the foyer from 11.30 a.m. and start chopping, thus sending a signal against the throwaway society.
If you prefer to explore the surrounding area for lunch or dinner, we can recommend the following restaurants:
- Schwarzes Café (European cuisine and bar), Kantstraße 148
- Dicke Wirtin (Berlin cuisine), Carmer Straße 9
- Aroma (Chinese), Kantstraße 35
- Schleusenkrug (Beer garden), Müller-Breslau-Straße 14b
Basically you will find a large selection of restaurants around the Bahnhof Zoo and on Kantstraße.
Side event: Open data hackathon for the Right to Repair
In preparation to Fixfest 2019, join the Restart Project on Thursday 19 September between 18.30-21.00 at Mozilla Berlin for a fun dive into an open dataset of repair data on electronics and electrical repairs performed by volunteers around the world.
